Deborah Lippmann Oscars 2016 Nail Report

As one of the most sought-after celebrity manicurists, legendary Hollywood manicurist Deborah Lippmann, has worked with several Oscar nominees and winners. For the 2016 Oscars, the master manicurist decorated the nails of nominees and presenters Alicia Vikander, Charlotte Rampling, and Daisy Ridley, to name a few. Here's how the nails of these three lovely ladies shone on the red carpet.

Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner, Alicia Vikander, stunned on the red carpet with a romantic look in a gorgeous strapless dusty yellow Louis Vuitton couture gown. To compliment her red carpet winning gown, Deborah opted for a nail look that was soft and ethereal, with a bit of a shimmery feel; Deborah Lippmann's Bring On The Bling, a divine diamond shimmer, was the ultimate finishing touch for Alicia’s fingers and toes.

TO CREATE ALICIA’S NAIL LOOK:

Deborah prepped the nails using her signature 5-step manicure technique:
  • First, she cleansed the nails with The Stripper nail lacquer remover ($19.00), shaped the nails with her Smooth Operator 4-way nail buffer ($12.00), exfoliated with Cuticle Remover ($20.00), and hydrated the hands and nails with Rich Girl SPF 25 Hand Cream ($28.00) and The Cure ($24.00), respectively.
  • Deborah applied a layer of All About That Base ($20.00) to correct and conceal discoloring and imperfections before lacquer application.
  • Next, she applied one coat (one coat for pedicure as well) of divine diamond shimmer, Bring On The Bling ($20.00), for a hint of glitter.
  • She topped off the look with a layer of Gel Lab Pro Top Coat ($45.00, part of set with Gel Lab Pro Base Coat).
  • After allowing the nails to dry one minute, she applied a drop of the quick dry drops, The Wait Is Over ($20.00).
Making her Oscars debut as a presenter, Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Daisy Ridley looked absolutely stunning in a shimmering silver and lavender Chanel couture dress. To compliment her look, Deborah Lippmann kept her nail look understated with Naked, a clean bare beige, on her fingers and toes.

TO CREATE DAISY’S NAIL LOOK:
  • After prepping the nails using her 5-step manicure, Deborah Lippmann applied Naked ($18.00), the clean bare beige, over one coat of Gel Lab Pro Base Coat.
  • She then sealed the look with a coat of Gel Lab Pro Top Coat ($45.00, part of set with Gel Lab Pro Base Coat).
To match Lead Actress nominee Charlotte Rampling's printed and textured Armani Prive dress, Deborah Lippmann used Single Ladies, a flirtatious red, for Charlotte’s fingers and toes to complement her earrings.

TO CREATE CHARLOTTE’S NAIL LOOK:
  • After prepping the nails using her 5-step manicure, Deborah applied Single Ladies ($18.00), the perfect flirtatious red, over one coat of Gel Lab Pro Base Coat.
  • She then sealed the look with a coat of Gel Lab Pro Top Coat ($45.00 part of set with Gel Lab Pro Base Coat).

Runway Nail Report: CND for Libertine Fall/Winter 2016

For the fourth season, CND Nails partnered with Libertine's Johnson Hartig for some eye-catching nail looks for the Libertine Fall/Winter 2016 during NYFW. To compliment the beaded eye embellishments featured on Libertine's runway looks, the team at CND hand-sculpted 180 eyes in various sizes using RETENTION+™ Liquid & Powder, then painted the eyes with SHELLAC™ Brand 14+ Day Nail Color and VINYLUX™ Weekly Polish in vibrant color combinations of red, green, blue, orange and pink, grounded in black and white accents. The nails were then finished with 60 LED-lit Swarovski crystal pupils, the eyes represented the quiet aloneness and centered spirituality achieved through meditation. An additional 180 pastel matte base nails were decked out with soft, fluffy adornments for a luxe organic finish.

Inspired by Johnson Hartig’s muse of the season, a French sculptor, painter and filmmaker, both clothing and nails featured graphic elements of modernism with sculptural extravagance in vibrant and animated color. Punctuating the surrealistic designs were enameled finishes, pupils that glowed with magical beams of light and fine crystals that lit up the runway. The outcome was a wildly playful fashion collaboration, ultimately rooted in reality.

“This is now our fourth season partnering with Libertine’s Johnson Hartig and our synergies are intuitive and based in an artists’ understanding of design and fashion. Johnson shares his extraordinary vison and we’re right there with him! That’s true and inspired partnership,” said CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold. “With this collection, we were able to embody CND’s Fall 2016 trend story, which is all about authenticity, hand-crafted artistry and embracing the beauty in raw imperfections.”

“They are a dream team sent from heaven above!” said Libertine designer Johnson Hartig. “This season, they not only created out-of-this-world nails for the female AND male models, but they even sculpted miniature eye pins to accessorize the clothing. They go above and beyond every season, and the show just wouldn’t be the same without them.”

Knitting Chic Nails

Good morning!!

I love to knit. It's calming and focusing. For someone who attention span is as short a my pinkie nail, knitting does wonders for me. I mostly make hats, scarves and baby items. Some things are more complicated and require tons of focus while others can be done in less than an hour. All bring equal amounts of joy.

I started knitting in primary school (middle school for my fellow Americans). I found a book in the village library and taught myself. We would make knitting pins out of the hard but flexible spine of coconut tree branches. The first thing I made was a pair of baby booties. White yarn with silver mixed in. Our dolls ended up having a ton of hats; those were really easy to make because they were mistakes made from not being able to keep a circle flat :) I stopped knitting when I became a teen. You know how that goes...

One day, I was on a little weekend getaway  in Solvang, CA and while walking around the town, wandered into a knitting store. Lets just say that after walking out of there with 4 skeins of yellow yarn and size 8 needles to make a scarf, my stash has grown considerably since.

This mani 's nail art design is an ode to my knitting skills.

Nail Stamping in Honour of Hayao Miyazaki

Hellooo darlings!

Happy New Year! I hope the holidays were amazing for you. Do you love animated movies? I sure do. I especially love the films by Hayao Miyazaki who accurding to IMDB is "one of Japan's greatest animation directors". My faves from him are Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo. On January 5th, he celebrated his 75th birthday.

Good thing the stamping plates that I had been waiting for from Aiyohee.com arrived on the 4th!!!!

Their Miyazaki Collection of stamping plates is just lovely. Featuring scenes and characters from the movies, they are quite elaborate and detailed. My nails are quite small so I am slightly limited in what designs I can use.  I chose images from my favourite plate of the 12-piece collection #66.

Polish Used:
China Glaze - Mix and Mingle
Konad White Stamping Polish

Here's to a wonderful 2016!!!
