Cosmic Travel In Lauren B. Fall 2015 Shades

Hello darlings,

I created a gorgeous cosmic mani using three yummy shades from the Lauren B. Fall 2015 Collection, which is inspired by the vivacious colors of Los Angeles:

The collection boasts eight colors that range from creamy soft pastels to bold shimmers and glitters, but the three colors I used are:

Espresso On 3rd: "Shot with sparkling caramel flecks, this deep chocolate tone has a fresh effect on all skin tones; it's one of the most gorgeous fall shades we know."

Santa Monica Shutters: "Clean and fresh with a touch of translucence, this milky, off-white shade creates the best first-snowfall effect: one coat makes your nails look healthy and glowing; two coats lend them a pearly gleam."

Ivy At The Shore: "The Goldilocks of teal polishes, this isn't too light or too dark - just commandingly pretty. Metallic undertones lent it an elegant luminous vibe."

Espresso On 3rd
The luxury nail polish brand is 100% vegan, eco-conscious and 5-free, which as any nail polish addict knows, means it's free of harsh chemicals that do more harm than good. What do you think of my cosmic travel-inspired manicure?

Lauren B Beauty is an LA based company and they name their shades whimsical LA references. I love it. These colors and more are available online at www.laurenbbeauty.com and retail for $18.00 a bottle.

Nail Trend Alert: Jelly Sandwich Mani

Dahlings!!

I love this nail trend, SO much. The Jelly Sandwich. It's basically layering sheer polishes, usually with glitter or dots of a contrasting colour in between layers, to create a dinensional type effect.

One layer of red polish followed by one of glitter, topped with another layer of red gave me this:

I only did the pointer and middle finger as we all know glitter is a pain to remove!! I love this look, and look forward to trying different colours and patterns.

Essie - Set In Stones

Moo-nicure: Cow Print Dry Brush Mani

Hello darlings,

I follow some of the best nail artists on Instagram, and often I am inspired by their amazing ideas. This next one I got from Sarah @ChalkboardNails. I have been dying to do this!! I love black and white together, and for this manicure, I paired the combo with a gorgeous bright blue.

By dry-brushing black swishes onto a white base, which has a small V taped off, you too can do this. Seriously, it's so easy. On the accent nails, I outlined the V in black to enhance them a little.

I can't wait to try this again with different pairings of colour!

New Fall Cool: Zoya Nail Lacquer Brigitte Review

Lovelies! Hope your week is going great!

Very rarely do I sport plain nails, but this one time, I couldn't stop staring at how pretty this shade is, so I left my nails like this:

Their website describes Zoya Brigitte as a full-coverage, bombshell mauve cream. And bombshell it is. Firstly, Zoya polishes apply like a dream and this one doesn't disappoint. The final result is subtle, neat. For professionals who want a little colour but don't want to overwhelm, this is it. My favourite natural colour so far, I feel it can be worn year-round.

Have a great weekend!!!

The Sweetest Halloween Mani: Candy Corn Nails for #NationalCandyCornDay

Since today is #NationalCandyCornDay, it's the perfect time to highlight this adorably delicious manicure that's perfect for Halloween. It'll also be a challenge to try to not bite your nails because your fingertips look like Candy Corn. Good luck with that ladies. Skyy Hadley, celebrity manicurist and owner of As U Wish Nail Salon, has created this delightful mani which perfectly celebrates the famous candy.

Paint one half of the nail in Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Get Mod (white) and the other in Lauren B. Coachella Valley Sun (yellow). Apply nail art stickers (hole reinforcers cut in half). Apply two on each nail as shown below.

Working on one nail at a time, paint the area inside the stickers with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Tribal Sun (orange) Carefully remove the stickers. Repeat on all other nails. Allow 5 minutes for your nail design to dry and finish it with a coat of Lauren B. Gel-like Top Coat.

Nail Your Halloween Mani with Deborah Lippmann

Who's ready for Halloween? What will you rock on your nails? We may not know what our costume will be, but we certainly know what our nails will be dressed as. Thanks to Deborah Lippmann and her Limited Edition ROAR Fall 2015 Collection, we have found our spooktacular Halloween manicure. This Halloween, dress your nails in Witches Claw or Howling Half Moon Mani:

Witches Claw:

  1. Begin with one coat of deborah lippmann Gel Lab Pro base coat and let dry fully.
  2. Apply two thin coats of Respect over the entire nail, waiting 2 minutes to dry and capping the tips of the nail after each coat.
  3. Wait one hour for nails to fully dry. Then, cut low-tack blue painters tape into a triangle shape and place in the center of the nail. The triangle should be placed where the pointed tip is at the top edge of your nail and is wider at the base.
  4. Paint the exposed sides of your nail with Miss Independent, then carefully lift the painters tape - do not wait for Miss Independent to dry.
  5. Finish the look with deborah lippmann Gel Lab Pro top coat.
Products Used:
  • deborah lippmann Gel Lab Pro Base and Top Coat (sold as a set) – $45.00
  • deborah lippmann Respect Nail Lacquer (Limited Edition for Fall/Winter 2015-16) – $18.00
  • deborah lippmann Miss Independent Nail Lacquer (Limited Edition for Fall/Winter 2015-16) – $18.00

A Howling Half Moon Mani:

  1. Begin with one coat of deborah lippmann Gel Lab Pro base coat and let dry fully.
  2. Apply two thin coats of Fade to Black over the entire nail, waiting 2 minutes to dry and capping the tips of the nail after each coat.
  3. Using a nail art detail brush (or the bottle brush if you have a steady hand), paint a half-moon at the base of the nail with Can’t Be Tamed glitter lacquer.
  4. While that dries, apply Ruby Red Slippers over the tip of your nail, gradually dragging the glitter down towards the middle of your nail to create a subtle gradient. Add a second swipe of Ruby Red Slippers just across the tips of your nails to create a more intense glitter ombre effect.
  5. Finish the look with deborah lippmann Gel Lab Pro top coat.
Products Used:
  • deborah lippmann Gel Lab Pro Base and Top Coat (sold as a set) – $45.00
  • deborah lippmann Fade to Black Nail Lacquer – $18.00
  • deborah lippmann Can’t Be Tamed Nail Lacquer (Limited Edition for Fall/Winter 2015-16) – $20.00

The new, full coverage shades include She Wolf (crème taupe - not pictured), Respect (crème brick red), Miss Independent (crème berry wine), and Can’t Be Tamed (crème holographic honey gold).

Green with Envy: Dry Marble Mani

Hello Lovelies,

Mixing is the name of the game for this mani. While I love water, sometimes I don't have time for a water marble. That's where the "dry" marble comes in. By simply putting one stripe of each colour on my nail and using a brush (or dotting tool or any pointy implement) to mix the colours, you can achieve one stunning manicure. Swirling, like the hairspray mani, produces different result each time. it all depends on how you mix the colours.

For this one, I swiped back and forth, light into dark green and vice versa. Mixing too much can cause you to lose the pattern but you will know when it's perfect.

Polishes Used:
Zoya - Shawn
Zoya - Tiana
essence the gel - Don't Be Shy (that's the one neon green)

Tips & Tricks: How To Do the Hairspray Mani

Hello Lovelies,

Here's another "how-to" post for you: The hair-spray water marble mani. So cool. The results are always different but always very interesting.

You will need:

~ two nail colours. One main base and one for the hair spray water dip.
~ hair spray (or perfume, spray-able rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer)
~ water (room temp, preferably filtered but not absolutely necessary)
~ acetone
~ tooth picks or orange (cuticle) sticks
~ cotton swabs
~ small brush

INSTRUCTIONS:
  • paint your base and let dry fully.
  • Fill a small container with the water. It needs to be big enough to dip your fingers into.
  • Add a few drops of your second polish to the water.
  • Spritz with hair spray. This will cause a splitting or tearing effect on the polish.
  • Doing one or two nails at a time, place your nail over the pattern you want to pick up. Do not move the nails around.
  • Use a toothpick to remove the rest of the polish from around the nails then lift from water.
  • Repeat for the remaining nails. Clean polish from skin using swabs dipped in acetone. Use the brush to clean closer to the cuticle area.
  • Add top coat and ADMIRE.

Colours used, l to r:

Zoya : Nimue, Arielle, Brittany (Satin)
Seche Vite top coat

Sally Hansen Introduces NEW ManiMatch App!

Imagine if you can see how a new nail polish color looks on your nails before you buy it? Imagine not getting stuck with a color you end up not liking? Thanks to Sally Hansen, and the launch of their new ManiMatch mobile app. with this amazing new app, you can try on the rainbow of over 200 Sally Hansen nail polish shades in real time, on your nails, before you buy.

A simple scan of the your hand with any smartphone enables you to instantly try out and select your favorite nail colors. There’s no need to upload any photos or enter any info, because the app works in real time. The ManiMatch mobile app also generates personalized-for-you-skin-tone color suggestions on demand thanks to its cutting-edge, proprietary technology. The app senses and analyzes the pigments in your hand, then matches its polish-shade suggestions that are flattering to your skin.

Choosing the perfect shade is both the most fun and the most difficult aspect of shopping for nail color; while some stores usually provide testers, many factors including lighting, what you're wearing, and even how many coats you put on can affect how a nail color looks on your hand. ManiMatch changes all that with their pre-shopping experience that has always frustrated nail color shoppers, transforming the process into a moment of discovery, excitement and pleasure. “The app is addictive; everyone who tries it can’t stop herself from checking out more options,” says Jeremy Lowenstein, Sally Hansen Global Marketing Vice President. “The fact that you see exactly how a color will look on your own hands is just pure fun—and incredibly useful. People end up experimenting with shades they’d never normally try.”

The launch of this app coincides with the release of the new Miracle Gel® Top Coat and new fashionable shades. The app is available for download for free on iOS platforms now and will be available on Android devices later this fall. ManiMatch is poised to revolutionize nail color shopping, both in store and online. Sally Hansen will host a kick-off consumer event in NYC to introduce the app. The first users to share the experience with a friend will have a chance to become the next Sally Hansen hand model for Sally Hansen social media tagging @Sally_Hansen on Instagram using the #ManiMatch hashtag.

*UPDATE: The Test of Time: CND VINYLUX® Weekly Polish

Hello Lovelies! There's nothing nicer than walking up to the door and seeing a package waiting for you. Ouuuuuuu, what have we got here? Nail mail!!! I opened the box to find four lovely shades of CND VINYLUX® Weekly Polish and one VINYLUX® Weekly Top Coat. (rubs hands together).

L to R: Top Coat, 159 Dark Dahlia, 145 Scarlet Letter, 112 Electric Orange, 171 Cerulean Sea

VINYLUX® Weekly Polish is a breakthrough polish that endures a week of fashion perfection...without a base coat! Exposure to natural light activates the patent-pending ProLight Technology™ to deliver week-long wear. While ordinary polishes break down over time, VINYLUX®Weekly Polish actually becomes more durable!

Lets just say V is for vivacious. Talk about bold! And the shine you get with these colours is amazing. And no UV light?! What?! The neon (think caution cone) orange was a bit hard to apply; it took three coats to make it opaque, but it was worth it. I loved the result. The purple is very deep and looks black on. Very Goth.

Colours Used:
Electric Orange with Dark Dahlia stripes

So it's supposed to last an entire week without chipping. Experiment time! I'll wear these for seven straight days and see what happens. Will my nails survive the week without chipping? Will I survive one week without doing my nails? Let's find out.

RESULTS:

After a tortured week of not being able to do my nails, I am amazed at how resilient this polish is! CND lives up to it's promise! My nails actually grew really quickly in that time. Apart from the usual typing all day situation, I really beat my hands up this week (emptying out my entire bathroom, for example) and, apart from the wear on the tips, there were NO chips. The one on my right thumb? I actually did that. Bad habit; I pick at it. Removal is a breeze - regular remover, and it comes right off. It's amazing!!! I can't wait to get more of these. They would be perfect for going on a long trip.

CND® VINYLUX® Weekly Polish retails for $10.50 per bottle at select salons, CND Vinylux, loxabeauty.com, and ulta.com.
